Profile

Karl D.D. Willis

I'm a Senior Research Manager at Autodesk Research, within the Autodesk AI Lab, focused on improving design tools using machine learning and computational design. I lead research projects in collaboration with industry and academia to solve difficult problems related to design, machine learning, and advanced manufacturing. I'm passionate about research and building great teams and great products. I have worked extensively at the intersection of software and hardware, with 15+ years of experience in R&D for product.

I hold a Ph.D. in Computational Design from Carnegie Mellon University and previously worked in the Interaction Group at Disney Research. My research has been implemented in products, received numerous awards, and presented internationally at venues such as IEEE/CVF CVPR, ICML, ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM UIST, and ACM CHI. I have 35+ publications, 10+ patents issued and pending, and my work has been covered extensively in the media including BBC, NBC, Wired, and New Scientist.
